WELCOME!
STARTING IS THE HARDEST PART.
New to the studio? We’re so glad you’re here. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch with us with any questions at all by emailing psyclemt@gmail.com or sending us an Instagram message.
We totally get it. Group fitness classes are intimidating; whether you've taken 100 in the past or you're thinking of signing up for your first one, they all force a step outside your comfort zone, but we promise the energy, endorphins, and sense of accomplishment are on the other side.
With that said, at PsycleMT our studio is more than just a space; it's an inclusive community deeply invested in the wellness of every individual who steps inside. Our goal is for everyone, especially you, to feel acknowledged, uplifted, and successful. From the moment you walk through our door, we make it our mission to provide a supportive community, ready to stand by you from your very first class to all the ones that follow.
12 frequently asked questions and tidbits for new riders...
1. Arrive early! Our studio doors open at least 20 minutes prior to class. We recommend you arrive at least 15 minutes before start time. Check in at the desk and our friendly instructors will get you rental shoes, help you get setup on your bike, teach you how to clip in and out, and review basic rider concepts.
2. Clip in?! What?! By far the most intimidating part of spin classes is the clipping in and out of the pedals with cycling shoes. Don't worry, we'll get you to pro status in no time!
3. Can I just wear street shoes? ...unfortunately not. Our bikes are clip-in only, but we can't emphasize this enough, WE GOT YOU. Everyone starts as a beginner and had to learn once too. We have rental shoes available for $2, ranging from Women's size 6 to Men's size 13.
4. What should I bring with? A positive attitude and a water bottle!
5. How do I best prepare for a spin class and recover after class? We recommend eating something small about an hour before class; think about pairing a protein with a carb (ie, hardboiled egg with a tangerine). After class we recommend replenishing electrolytes/minerals (our faves are Zuma Nutrition Fulvic Acid & Trace Minerals), lots of water, eating a balanced meal, and adding in additional stretching.
6. Schedule your class ahead via Momence. You have the option to schedule a class on our Schedule page or by downloading the Momence app via Google Play or Apple Store. If it says WAITLIST next to the class, you may join the waitlist (please refer to the FAQs for more waitlist info) or if it says FULL then the waitlist is full and you will need to find a different class to signup for.
7. What can I expect for intensity? Spin classes are naturally low-impact, but high-intensity. Our instructors curate each class to be scalable, offering modifications along the way. Ultimately you are never required to do anything -- you are in control of your resistance/gear, pace, and can opt in and out of choreography as you please. We only ask that you try and ride the beat, adding on gear to strengthen and challenge yourself.
8. How will I know if I'm riding to the beat? Easy. Every song the instructor will call out the beat as rotations per minute/beats per minute (RPM-BPM). Each bike has a screen that will tell you at all times what your RPM/BPM is.
9. What if I'm out of shape? Well then you're in the right place and you're about to discover the joy of inclusive spinning at PsycleMT ! Like we said before, we all have to start somewhere, but it can be the start of your journey to a healthier, happier, more energetic you! We recommend if you're nervous to snag a bike in the back row, make it a goal to hit each BPM, adding gear where you can, and taking in the experience.
10. What are the benefits of spinning? Joining a PsycleMT spin class isn't just a commitment to your physical health to tone, strengthen, and burn calories; it's an investment in your overall well-being. Feel the rush of endorphins as you pedal your way to a healthier cardiovascular system, sweating out unnecessary stressors. Experience the mental clarity that comes with a focused workout. We’re not just about the ride, but about unlocking the endless benefits that extend far beyond our studio walls.
11. Will my butt hurt? We won't sugarcoat it, probably yes. BUT we assure you it subsides with each ride. This is where we really think form and proper bike setup is crucial; when you're in the saddle, your booty should be on the widest part of the saddle, engaging your core with light hands on the handlebars.
Also, feel free to bring a padded seat cover or wear padded bike shorts!
12. I heard my second ride is free, is that true? Absolutely! Your second ride is on us and will automatically be added when you purchase and schedule your first ride. Both are valid for 30 days.
